The dragon fruit cactus blooms several times each year. The flower is beautiful, about 15 cm long and 30 cm wide in diameter, blooms at night and dies with the first rays of the sun. It yields after successful pollination by nocturnal pollinators moths and bats.
The peel of the fruit is not edible, only the flesh inside. The fruit is cut in half and the inside is eaten with a spoon, or cut into slices like watermelon. The flesh can be made into juice and drunk.
