Passion fruit is a perennial plant, native to tropical regions of the Americas. It is known for its beautiful white-purple flowers. The two main commercial varieties are the purple passion fruit (Passiflora edulis L.), and the yellow passion fruit (P. f. flavicarpa edulis). The purple passion fruit is mainly grown in Africa and India, and the yellow passion fruit in Peru, Brazil, and Ecuador.
Fresh passion fruit is rich in vitamin A, potassium, and dietary fiber. Its juice is a source of ascorbic acid (vitamin C).
Passion fruit has round or oval fruits, juicy insides filled with numerous seeds. The fruit can be eaten raw or used to make juices, and is often added to other fruit juices to enhance the flavor.
In our continental conditions, it can be grown very successfully, so that the plant with its large green fleshy leaves covers an area of 6-9 m² with hundreds of beautiful flowers and very tasty fruits. It is necessary to plant two-year-old seedlings in a sunny place with an appropriate structure like for a grapevine and requires a lot of watering
